John J.'s Story
Life
Completed the Master's of Business Administration program at WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY; Construction Inspector for the City of Detroit- Department of Public Works, accepted my call to the ministry on October 9, 2005 in front of my congregation at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church (Detroit), avid bowler, divorcee, former candidate for the Detroit City Council.
School
Detroit Northwestern gave me the instant experience of recognition and living in anonymity; my mother, Lorraine Davis, taught English in Room 314 from 1971-1990, which was how I became recognized by some of my peers; otherwise, by the second semester of my eleventh grade year, I obtained jobs through DECA, which eliminated my participation in student government; the experiences that I missed ...Expand for more
with those peers would have been valuable, but the money (I was making $5.00 an hour) came in handy. My best friend was/is Darrell Roberts, whom I met in ninth grade Algebra (Mr. West). My grades were sub-par (2.8) because I did not fully apply myself, but all in all, I enjoyed Detroit Northwestern and all it had to offer.
College
Wayne State University taught me the value of networking with various races and nationalities; I was very active in the student government arena, and worked the system as much as possible to gain insight into my present and future accomplishments. It would have been great to experience a HBCU, but I was satisfied with going to school part-time, and working full-time the majority of my college education.
